Music is all about storytelling, and my work as a music director is always in service of the story. Guiding leads, ensemble members and a pit through the process of learning material, honing in on nuance, and locking in a sound is no easy task, but it’s one I relish, because at the end of the day, it allows a show to speak to an audience on a level beyond word and gesture. It’s a task that requires many different hats, and the strange ability to have fun under pressure. Needless to say, it’s one of my absolute favorite things.
